“Retratos de una Tribu” (Portraits of a Tribe) is a work born from the feminine soul, from the echo of our ancestors and the vital pulse that connects the earth with the voice. Across these eleven songs, Penélope Anaya explores the many faces of womanhood: strength, tenderness, motherhood, struggle, devotion, freedom, desire, and memory. Each song is a living story — a sonic portrait that honors the women who inspire her, as well as flight, self-love, and a deep connection with nature.
This album is an offering — to those who were, to those who are, and to those who will be the women of my life.
Here you will find detailed information about the album, including song lyrics in English and Spanish, musician credits, sponsors, and additional project insights.
The album draws from traditional rhythms while embracing new musical concepts. Bolero glam, Cuban influences, and Latin jazz coexist with criollo waltz, tango, and tarantella, among others. The energy of Dixieland jazz, the roots of son jarocho, and the strength of Mexican regional music and ranchera ballads bring character, identity, and a sense of place, resulting in a work that is diverse, intimate, and rich in nuance.
